Volume I, Minnow to Mercenary. A boy dreams of flying. He's sickly, poor, an outsider - still he dreams. A summer job at an airport leads to flying lessons. Shortly thereafter he's smuggling lobster off Mexican beaches in an old surplus airplane. Later, it's the Congo and a revolution. Followed by a CIA operation in Laos making dangerous airdrops to the Royalists fighting the communists; then Vietnam. Adrenaline-pumping excitement. He lives his dream with luck, and pluck; always knowing the glass is half-full. This is the early years of Captain Dave Case's forty-four-year action-packed career as a swash-buckling pilot; always seeking the other side of the mountain. Volume One is the first of three; each crammed with gripping yarns of one man doing it his way.

Maverick Pilot Vol I eBook Dave Case

Dave Case is a pilot who eschewed the norm and followed a life of high adventure, flying as a commercial contract pilot in dangerous locations such as war-torn Congo, Vietnam, and Laos. This is the story of a never ending love affair with airplanes, beginning as a sixteen year old kid who would do any kind of menial task at a small airport just to be near those fantastic flying carpets and learn to fly.

Dave's adventures began at age seventeen by restoring a wreck of a plane found in a junkyard and continuing on to adventures in Southern California, Mexico and anywhere else that would provide income, excitement, and, above all, the opportunity to fly.

This is the book to satisfy the adrenaline junkie in all of us.

Maverick Pilot Vol I eBook Dave Case Reviews

I love the way the story line keeps your interest, very fluid & a delightful read. Looking forward to more from Dave Case.
A great story and a good read from the days when the aviation business was fun and exciting (sometime a little too exciting).
Sign me up for Vol. 2 & 3!
This is a fascinating account of a flying filled life. From a poor kid in southern California bitten by the flying bug through Mexican, Hawaiian and southeast Asian flying adventures, Dave Case recounts his life into his thirties. Great detail, aircraft and people populate this account. It is a real treat.
I challenge anyone who has read this book (Vol. #I) to not want to go on and read Vol's II and III....just try and stop with this first one. The author knew before he hit his teens that he wanted to be a pilot and he bacame one at 16. This first Volume takes us from his early teens through earning an Air Transport Pilot's license and lots of spooky flying adventures in Southeast Asia in the 60's. Underneath the laughs, beers and derring-do, you see an expert and deadly-serious aviator. A riveting, entertaining and enlightening read!
Dave's book is great example of how some of us got into the flying business and made a career out of it. His exploits in Southern Ca. and Mexico will really curl your hair. the Congo and the atmosphere and camaraderie is genuine. I was there too. Those of us that flew in Laos and Vietnam have a bond that lasts to this day. I for one was surprised and impressed with his ability to fly all the really neat stuff he got a hold of and a bit jealous I have to admit. If there is any interest in the reader about aviation this is a great, true novel
I happen to know Dave, and i really appreciate the decision he has made to tell a story many of us could not share with others for a very long time.

I usually tell people that I'M not who You Think I am when trying to explain or evade the history some of us hold within.

Wish i could put some of my memories on paper and get it out and done with once and for all.

As promised , a salute to those who relied on me on the in-bound that did not make it back, i remember all of you and where you rest. peace

Dave has done an excellent job of providing the reader with an insight into our small world, how some of us became involved ,the turns of fate we are a product of and making it real and entertaining.

good job Dave
Well, not the real McCoy; Joe McCoy and I were Pilatus Porter pilots with CASI based in Vientiane while Dave Case was in Saigon. But we heard many of his exploits via "jungle drums", and it's great reading them and more in Volume I; I'm anxiously awaiting the next two installments. Dave vividly describes an earlier time in aviation when pilots of a certain persuasion had the opportunity to hazard their lives and fortunes in exchange for participation in various aviation operations around the world; sometimes you even got paid. He captures the compelling sense of camaraderie and adventure that made it all worthwhile, a highlight in our lives. Thanks for re-kindling the memories, Dave.
