The Mighty First Episode 3 eBook Mark Bordner

My kids got their hands on books 1&2 in this series, and really enjoyed them. I read the books also, and they were an enjoyable read, since I realy like the post apocalyptic sci-fi stuff. As a boots on the ground combat veteran, I would say the combat stuff is at least 80% accurate in my opinion, which is pretty good since the author is writing about something that happens in the future. I like that the language is written to be kid friendly. I would not be embarrassed if my kids passed these books on to a friend at church.
So with the enjoyable reading we got from the first two books, I was happy to order books 3-5. Although we just got these books delivered yesterday and haven't had a chance to read them yet, I'm sure they will be as enjoyable as the first two books were.
All of that being said, I do have some negatives to mention in regards to books 3-5, which are as follows:

Episode 3 - The sorrow of Enon Pass. I'm not entirely sure the copy of this I received in my order was actually intended for sale to the public. The binding on it is unlike the other books in the series, and unlike any book I've ever purchased or even seen before. I think maybe I received an editor proof copy of something. All of the other books in the series have a nice colorful front and back cover, with a brief description of the story on the back cover. Not book 3. The back cover is solid white except for a barcode in the bottom right corner. No text at all describing the content, no review of the book, nothing. The spine on the book is also solid white with no text printed on it. No publisher's logo or anything. So when this book is sitting on the bookshelf, there is nothing at all on the spine to identify the book. No author name, no book title. It's just weird. What happened with the printing when they were publishing this? Was this copy supposed to end up in the reject pile or something? It's very strange looking for a book. Inside, they forgot to print page numbers on the pages. This book is so strange as far as the way it was printed, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to return it to Amazon. I don't like it.

Episode 4 - Minerva Rising: The outside of the book at least looks normal, but I can tell from flipping through the pages that the publisher was trying to skimp on cost here. The book is about one third as thick as book 3. They managed to accomplish this smaller size book by shrinking the font to a size that requires me to squint to read it, and by shrinking the page margins all the way to the edge of the pages. I seriously can't tell in some places, but it looks like some of the text actually may have been chopped off at the edge of the pages because they ran the print all the way to the edges of the pages. I don't know how many pages are in this book, because just like book 3, they did not print page numbers in the book. When I'm reading, I like to look at the page numbers so I can see how far I've read. I can't do that with this book, because the publisher appears to be rubbing pennies together hoping to squeeze a dime out of them. Not happy with the look and feel of this book, so I'll probably be returning this one to Amazon also.

Episode 5 - For the Broken Hearted: Well the publishers are slowly moving back to making this a decently published book. They at least printed page numbers in it this time, and they have the book title printed on the spine of the book. But they still are using the reduced size font that makes me squint to read it, which isn't any fun at all, and they still ran the print all the way to the edge of the page which again makes me wonder if some of the text was actually cut off. Since I'm going to end up returning books 3 and 4 having not read them, books 5 will almost certainly be returned also.
Because the publishers were trying to get away with minimizing their costs when printing these books, episodes 4 and 5 stacked together do not equal the thickness of book 3. I can't compare actual page numbers though, since books 3 and 4 were printed without them.

It's really a shame. This series was enjoyable to read through books 1 and 2, not just for the kids but the adults in our household also. The publishers made books 3-5 unpleasant enough to warrant them being returned unread. It's really disappointing. I'm sure the story line in these books is as enjoyable to read as it was in the first two books. Kudos to the author for an exciting story line. It's a shame what your publishers did to the books in the printed form to make them so rejectable. Maybe we will try the Kindle editions and hope for an improvement from the paper editions. I seriously doubt they could be any worse.

The Mighty First Episode 3 eBook Mark Bordner Reviews

In the future, the prosperous world is at peace. There's not even been a police action for over a hundred years. The last combat veteran died long ago. Military training programs are more along the lines of basic security outings.

The world changed with an alien act of war. The fight continues against the vicious Storian, who will stop at nothing to conquer the earth and its people.

War hurts

"Her mother immediately came around the bed and took Minerva into her embrace. Being there was what she had needed so badly, to finally release her anguish. The pain, the anger, the utter sense of complete loss flooded out against her mother’s bosom. Cleo sniffled and gazed out the window, his jaw tight, eyes shining with moisture that he would not allow to progress into tears. He had feared this, but more than that, he feared the day that might come when it was his own daughter who would not be coming home."

Mark Bordner continues the wonderful science fiction adventure in The Mighty First Episode Two. As a master storyteller, he weaves an intricate plot, peopled with his realistic characters.
I'm not really into science fiction books. However a friend recommended the first book in the series, and I couldn't put it down. The second one was equally impressive. This one picked up exactly where it should have. I ended up staying awake until 2 am to finish it. I'm ready for book 4 to be published.
I am 51 years old, and read a lot of series book's in my life. Only a handful have really kept my interest. This series is at the top of my list. I just started reading episode 3 a few days ago and finished it in 3 days, I Just couldn't put it down. I already cant wait for book 4. Full of action, drama, loss's you name it. And even a couple of nice surprises mixed in. If you don't pick up on this series you are really missing out on a great story.
This one was for me personally not as good as the previous books in the series. Once again my pet peeve in some stories, too much angst, self doubt self hate, over analyzing. The flow of the story was going tremendously in the first few books, but the author decided to up the stress quota in this one a bit, and I feel he overdid it.
This Review was originally published on Kurt's Frontier.

The First Global Marine Division has been hurled into the thick of the battle for Ohio. Yet Emperor Grozet is not giving up without a fight. He strikes hard at Earth’s defenses in general and at Minerva in particular, leaving her struggling with demons of her own. Someone tried to kill her father, and Mark, her husband, has been listed as killed in action. She is grief stricken and angry as the war both rages around her and within her.

Review

Mark Bordner continues the saga of the First Global Marine Division in The Mighty First Episode 3 Sorrow of Enon Pass. Gears shift in this part of the story, and we see the toll the war is taking on the people. The emotional impacts fall hard and fast on Master Sergeant Minerva Carreno—an attempted on the life of her parents and seemingly loosing her husband in battle are heaped on top of an intense battlefield situation with an enemy pulling out all the stops to regain the initiative.

In this book, the author shows us the brutal toll that war takes on the soldier as it grows more and more desperate. Mark Bordner captures the intrigue of black operations without getting bogged down in the technical details any more than is necessary. At the same time the action is harder and faster, while the rests are darker and more grief stricken.
